Obituary of Miss Flora Quillian

The following obituary was transcribed by Suzanne Forte (suzanneforte@bellsouth.net) from a scrapbook in her possession, belonging to her great grandmother, Cora Lorena Foster Weeks. Lorena was born Jan 25, 1877 in Freestone Co, Texas and died Jan 6, 1952 in Gilmer County, Georgia. This obituary was presumably from the Gilmer County newspaper, the Times Courier, but could have been from the Atlanta, Georgia, newspaper, the Atlanta Journal/Constitution.

"Funeral Saturday for Miss Flora Quillian"

 

   Funeral services were held Saturday, December 29th, from Watkins Memorial Methodist Church for Miss Flora Quillian, Rev. L. F. VanLandingham, a former pastor, officiating. Interment with B.C. Logan & Son in charge was in the Ellijay cemetery.

   Miss Quillian, 24, died at the home of her parents in Ellijay, Friday, Dec. 28, following an illness of several months.

   The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Quillian she was born Dec 18, 1921, at Ellijay where her entire life was spent. The attended Ellijay High School and after finishing her course accepted employment in Dalton until her health gave way and she returned to the home of her parents in Ellijay.

   The deceased was a member of the Watkins Memorial Methodist Church and enjoyed a wide circle of friends, both young and old, who are saddened over her passing and who deeply sympathize with the bereaved family.

   Besides her father and mother, she is survived by three sisters, Misses Frankie, Mary Louise and Dorothy Quillian, all of Ellijay.
